ADVICE TO RESIDENTS BEFORE ATTEMPTING CONTROLLED FIRE BURNS

Every year Texas County Fire Departments are toned out and respond to fire calls only to find out that when they get on scene that landowner has intentionally set the fire and was doing a controlled burn, but failed to notify 911 or their local fire department. Many of these calls to 911 originate with cell phones.

The other problem is that every year Texas County fire departments are called to extinguish CONTROLLED burns that got out of CONTROL because landowner did not have enough help.

Please be careful with all fires and follow these few rules.

1.      Have enough help to adequately CONTROL your CONTROLLED burn!

2.      Before starting controlled burn, notify 911 including name, address and phone number .

3.      Notify local fire department.

4.      When you have finished with your controlled burn notify 911 and local fire department that fire is out.
